Crews from 317th Airlift Group, the C-130J unit at Dyess AFB, Texas, dropped two Joint Precision Airdrop System, or JPADS, bundles simultaneously into two different drop zones a mile-and-a-half apart during a training exercise on 14 August 2012 at Fort Hood, Texas. JPADS is an airdrop system that uses Global Positioning Satellite, steerable parachutes and an onboard computer to steer loads to a designated point of impact on a drop zone. The precision of JPADS allows resupply to isolated forward operating bases and moving targets. The training exercise involved two bundles, but the system allows for multiple drops.
