US Marine Corps test pilot Lt. Col. Matt Kelly arrived at the Air Force Test Center at Edwards AFB, California, in F-35 BF-2 after a cross country flight from NAS Patuxent River, Maryland, on 23 July 2012. The Marine Corps short takeoff/vertical landing test jet is on the west coast for aircraft airstart testing over the Edwards ranges. The US Air Force shortened the name of the main tenant unit at Edwards from Air Force Flight Test Center to just Air Force Test Center in July 2012.
