US Marine Corps test pilot Lt. Col. Fred Schenk flew the 100th mission in F-35B Lightning II test aircraft BF-1 on 10 May 2012. The mission expanded the aircraft’s flight envelope in short takeoff and vertical landing mode. The F-35B is the short takeoff and vertical landings variant of the Lightning II. It will flown by the US Marine Corps from amphibious ships or expeditionary airfields to provide air power to the Marine Air-Ground Task Force.
