Second Updated P-3N Flown

The second Royal Norwegian Air Force P-3N to receive the Mid-Life Upgrade, or MLU, kit was flown for the first time at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, on 8 February 2012. Additional test flights are scheduled before the aircraft is returned to 333 Squadron at Andøya AS, Andenes, Norway.The MLU kit was built at the Lockheed Martin facility in Marietta, Georgia, and was installed at IMP Aerospace in Halifax. IMP will install the kits, which feature new wings and horizontal stabilizers, on Norway’s fleet of six P-3s. This P-3N is named Bernt Balchen to honor the famous Norwegian aviation pioneer and military leader.
