US Air Force Capt. Dereck Monnier (right) and 1st Lt. Tory Lodmell, both pilots with the 36th Airlift Squadron at Yokota AB, Japan, serve as drop zone control officers as US Army paratroopers descend to the airfield during a regularly-scheduled Samurai Surge formation flight on 10 January 2012. US Air Force C-130H crews from the 374th Airlift Wing at Yokota train on low level procedures, navigation, and station keeping among the different members of the formation during the Samurai Surge flights. As the sole airlift hub in the Western Pacific, Yokota provides expeditionary forces ready to deploy anywhere in the world, which is why regular large-scale training exercises take place.
