<p>With more than 4,400 produced, the F-16 Fighting Falcon remains the world's most advanced 4th generation fighter. By incorporating 5th generation technology and adapting to customer requirements, the F-16 is ready for the future.</p> <p>The F-16 Multi-Axis Thrust-Vectoring, or MATV, was used to explore flight control development and modifications to expand the flight envelope of the F-16. The F-16 MATV performed such maneuvers as the Cobra, J turn, and helicopter to unlimited angles of attack in a short flight test program that began in 1993 and ended in 1994. The system was designed and built by Lockheed and General Electric. The exhaust nozzle provided up to seventeen degrees of thrust vectoring in any direction. It was tested on the Variable In-Flight Simulator Test Aircraft, known as the VISTA/F-16. VISTA is still used at Edwards AFB, California, for training test pilots and flight test engineers and for developing flight control laws for other aircraft.</p> <p>The Royal International Air Tattoo, or RIAT, is the world's largest military air show, attracting tens of thousands of visitors and support from the Royal Air Force and leaders in the aerospace industry.</p> <p>In 2014, the F-16 Fighting Falcon celebrates the 40th anniversary of the YF-16 prototype's official first flight. Forty years and more than 4,500 aircraft later, the F-16 is the world's most successful 4th Generation fighter aircraft, flown by twenty-eight customers worldwide.</p> <p>Bill McHenry highlights the capabilities of the F-16 at the 2013 Dubai Airshow.</p> <p>Lockheed Martin commemorated the 4,500th F-16 Fighting Falcon delivery on 3 April 2012 with a ceremony in Fort Worth for employees, customers, former executives, and elected officials. Since the F-16’s first production orders in 1975, it has been produced in partnership with five countries and has been selected as the front-line fighter for twenty-six nations. The 4,500th F-16 is an advanced Block 52 aircraft destined for Morocco. This video was created for the event.</p> <p>The 149th Fighter Wing, the Texas Air National Guard unit located at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, trains both active duty and Air National Guard F-16 pilots in a variety of courses, from a basic course for new F-16 pilots recently graduated from undergraduate pilot training to a requalification course for experienced pilots.</p> <p>Lockheed Martin test pilot Paul Randall performed striking aerial demonstrations at the 2011 Paris Airshow. The 90th FS (nicknamed Pair-O-Dice) was the first F-22 squadron in Alaska, receiving its advanced aircraft in 2007. The 525th FS (nicknamed Bulldogs) received their Raptors later the same year. In addition, the Air Force Reserve Command’s 302nd FS (the Hellions) is an Associate unit that provides pilots and maintainers who fly and fix the aircraft alongside their active duty counterparts.

The Multi-Axis Thrust Vectoring system allowed the F-16 to maneuver effectively beyond its twenty-five degree angle of attack limit to almost 100 degrees AOA.

F-16 Baltic Air Policing In Lithuania

The thirty-sixth NATO deployment to secure air space over the Baltic States began on 1 September 2014 when four F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters of the Portuguese Air Force, or Força Aérea Portuguesa, landed at Šiauliai. The F-16s came from Esquadra 201 Falcoes (Falcons) and Esquadra 301 Jaguares, (Jaguars) at Monte Real AB in Portugal. The deployment ended in January 2015.

Joe Bill Dryden was a graduate of the US Air Force Academy, Class of '62. After retiring from the Air Force, Joe Bill became an experimental test pilot for General Dynamics. His experience with the F-16 began when he was selected to represent Tactical Air Command as one of the original members of the YF-16/YF-17 Lightweight Fighter Joint Test Team. He subsequently flew and helped develop various combinations of F-16 airframe, engine, wing, flight control system, and avionics. Joe Bill died on 24 May 1993 when his F-16 crashed in North Central Texas during a company acceptance flight.
