Three Aeronautica Militare, or Italian Air Force, C-130Js were flown in formation on 8 June 2014 to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of 50 Squadron, one of two Italian squadrons that operate the Super Hercules. The flyover took place during commemoration events at the unit’s base in Pisa, Italy. Both 50 Squadron and its sister unit, 2 Squadron, are assigned to the Aeronautica Militare’s 46th Air Brigade. Italy, which has been a C-130 operator since 1972, received its first C-130J in 2000 and currently operates a fleet of twenty-one extended length and standard length C-130Js.
